What does it mean when women (and men) say Hillary can't win?
Do you think it means that a woman can't win? Does it mean she particularly can't win b/c she's "polarizing" (even though W won and he was one of the most polarizing figures to run for the presidency)? Is it code for "I don't like her and using any of these is a convenient way not to out myself"? Or is it really something else altogether?
And what affirmatively answers that question effectively in your observations with folks you know? Poll numbers? The state by state analysis showing how she can win? An analysis of what it means to be polarizing (i.e., that none of those who find her polarizing would vote for her anyway)?
What?

just had a dinner party that included 7 democratic women between the ages of 27-30. none of them thought hillary electable. when i asked why most said 1) "because she is so hated by so many people" and 2) because she inspires so few democrats. i pressed on #1 arguing that the hatred was among repubs that were not going to vote for her anyway. the response was to 1) question if i was correct, and 2) say that even if that is true the level of hatred among the repubs would inspire more of them to the polls to vote against her. and even after i pushed back on that they came back to their 2nd argument about not being inspired by her. i don't know if they are representative--probably are not--but there you have it, the view of 7 people in an informal focus group.
